Task Map

Simple Definition

A task map is a breakdown of a project into smaller tasks, where each task is labeled by how much AI should be involved: do it, assist with it, or stay away from it.

Instead of asking AI to “do the whole thing,” you decide up front where it actually helps and where a human needs to stay in control.

Why It Matters

Over-delegating to AI is a common mistake. It leads to work that looks finished but hides errors, poor judgment, or risk in the parts that mattered most.

A task map helps you:

• Apply AI where it genuinely saves time
• Keep human judgment on the steps that need it
• Spot risky tasks before you hand them off
• Plan a project instead of improvising with prompts

Some tasks can be delegated. Some need a human review after the AI drafts them. Some should stay fully human because they involve taste, relationships, risk, or sensitive decisions.

Example

For a website redesign, AI might help audit pages, draft copy, suggest component ideas, and summarize competitor sites. A human still approves the strategy, reviews the final design, tests the user flow, and decides what actually ships.
