AI Prompts for GEO and AI Search Optimization
Prompts for making website content clearer for Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and answer engines.
Who These Prompts Are For
SEO writers, marketers, website owners, content strategists, and AI search consultants who want their content to show up in AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Perplexity. These prompts help you write clearer answers, define entities, structure pages, plan schema, and audit content for AI search readiness.
How to Use These Prompts
Copy any prompt into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or another AI tool. Replace placeholders like [topic], [page], and [entity]. Paste your real page content when you want an audit or rewrite. Always fact-check, clarity only helps if the facts are right.
Entity Clarity Prompts
Improve entity clarity on a page:
Act as a GEO specialist. Here's a page about [topic]: [paste content].
Identify the main entity (person, product, concept, place) this page is about. Tell me whether the page clearly defines it, and rewrite the opening so an AI system immediately understands what the entity is, what it does, and who it's for. Lead with a plain definition.
Find missing entities:
Here's content about [topic]: [paste].
List the related entities, terms, and concepts a complete page on this topic should mention but this one doesn't. For each, suggest where to add it naturally. These are the connections AI search uses to understand context.
Write a clear definition section:
Write a clear, quotable definition of [term/concept] for a page targeting AI search.
Output: a 1-2 sentence direct definition first, then 2-3 sentences of context, then how it relates to [related topic]. Factual, neutral, easy to lift into an answer.
FAQ and Answer Prompts
Create answer-first sections:
Rewrite these sections so each one answers its question in the first sentence: [paste sections].
For each: lead with the direct answer, then support it with detail. Keep my facts. Remove throat-clearing intros like "In today's world." Output the rewritten sections with their headings.
Generate FAQ ideas from search intent:
For a page about [topic], generate the real questions people ask AI assistants and search engines.
Group them by intent (what is, how to, vs, best, cost). Give 12-15 questions and, for the top 6, a 2-3 sentence direct answer I can adapt. Base answers on common knowledge and flag anything I should verify.
Write quotable answers:
Here are questions for my page on [topic]: [list].
Write a concise, self-contained answer to each — the kind an answer engine could quote without needing the rest of the page. First sentence states the answer. Keep each under 60 words.
Content Structure Prompts
Restructure a page for AI search:
Restructure this page so it's easy for AI systems to parse: [paste content].
Give me: a clear H1, descriptive H2s phrased as questions or topics, an answer-first paragraph under each, and a short summary box for the top of the page. Keep all my facts; improve the structure and headings.
Add a summary box:
Write a "quick answer" summary box for the top of this page: [paste or describe the topic].
3-5 sentences that directly answer the page's main question, so a reader (or AI) gets the gist instantly. Neutral, factual, no fluff.
Improve topical coverage:
Here's my page on [topic]: [paste].
Compare it to what a thorough page on this topic should cover. List the subtopics, questions, and angles I'm missing, ranked by importance. These gaps are where I'm losing AI-search completeness.
Schema Planning Prompts
Plan schema for a page:
Recommend the structured data (schema.org) types for this page: [describe the page — article, FAQ, how-to, product, etc.].
For each recommended type, list the key properties to fill in and why it helps AI and search understand the page. Keep it to what's realistic to implement on a static site.
Generate FAQ schema content:
Here are my page's FAQs: [paste question/answer pairs].
Format them as clean question-and-answer pairs ready to drop into FAQPage schema. Keep answers concise and self-contained. Flag any answer that's too long or vague to be useful as structured data.
AI Search Audit Prompts
Audit a page for AI search readiness:
Act as a GEO auditor. Audit this page for AI search readiness: [paste content].
Score it on: direct answers, entity clarity, structure/headings, topical completeness, factual specificity, and trustworthiness signals. For each, give a score out of 5 and one concrete fix. End with the top 3 changes that would help most.
Compare my page to what AI would want:
Here's my page on [topic]: [paste]. Here's a question I want to rank for: [question].
Tell me whether this page clearly answers that question, where the answer is buried, and exactly what to add or move so an answer engine could cite it. Be specific.
Find trust and source gaps:
Review this page for trust signals AI search rewards: [paste].
Check for: clear authorship, sources/evidence for claims, specificity (numbers, examples), and an updated date. List what's missing and suggest how to add credibility without overclaiming. Continue learning

Frequently Asked Questions
What is GEO?
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is the practice of making your content easy for AI systems, like Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Perplexity, to read, understand, and cite. It overlaps with SEO but focuses on clear answers, well-defined entities, and structure that an answer engine can lift directly.
How is GEO different from SEO?
SEO aims to rank a page in a list of links. GEO aims to get your content quoted inside an AI-generated answer. GEO leans harder on direct answers, factual clarity, entity definitions, and structured content. Good SEO foundations still help, but GEO adds answer-first writing on top.
Can these prompts guarantee I show up in AI Overviews?
No tool or prompt can guarantee AI visibility. These systems are a black box and change often. What these prompts do is make your content clearer, more factual, and easier to quote, which improves your odds. Treat it as improving quality, not gaming a system.
What's the single biggest GEO improvement?
Answer the question directly in the first sentence or two of each section, then expand. Answer engines reward content that states the answer plainly. The answer-first and clarity prompts below help you rewrite pages this way.
